May 15th 2009 18:09
The Hemlock Tavern can be found at 1131 Polk Street - circa 2 blocks north from the GAMH - in the Nob Hill/Polk Gulch district. Their phone is (415) 923-0923 and their website is www.hemlocktavern.com. It is listed as both a music venue and also as a bar. The Hemlock is equipped with a jukebox and a pool table. It is a 21 venue, and your ID will be checked on entry.
The Hemlock opens from 4pm-2am daily, with happy hour running from 4-7pm. (Happy hour offers a $1 discount on beer/cocktails.) The actual music area is separated from the main bar space, the former generally taking a cover charge for access. The Hemlock does not accept credit cards, but has a full bar and smoking is permitted in a special smokers' lounge. For a buck, you can grab a bag of hot peanuts, if you are searching for a cheap priced and healthy snack to accompany your evening's entertainment.
Five or six nights a week you can catch live music at The Hemlock. This ranges from the local bands to national and international performers. On Monday, you will find 'Punk Rock Sideshow' DJ's in the main bar. Bands that have played The Hemlock Tavern recently include: Trainwreck Riders, Audio Out Send, Tippy Canoe, Mecca Normal, Sic Alps, Grouper, and Trevor Childs & the Beholders.
