After a trio of new owners took over the building and recreated it as The DNA Lounge out of the former leather bar named Chaps, the venue progressed through new owners, a remodeling, and legal difficulties until September 2008. It is now an all age venue run by Jamie Zawinski. However, the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control is now investigating the club in an attempt to disallow it to serve alcohol, based on a claim of lewd dancing during specific events held at the club. This would lead to the permanent closure of the venue.
Famous bands who have played the venue include: Arrested Development, Chris Isaak, Primus, Prince, Tim Finn, and The Goo Goo Dolls. Bands and events coming to The DNA Lounge soon include: Battle of he Bands, Bleeding Through, the Acacia Stream, As Blood Runs Black, and Impending Doom.
