VENUE REVIEWS: CDN

Café Du Nord offers one of the most respected (by bands) local venues in the SF area. Along with offering live music with superior sound - trust me, I've been told by the bands!! - CDN offers customers a first class restaurant and nightclub. Situated in the Upper-Market district of town, CDN occupies a Swedish-American building built in 1907. The 40-foot mahogany bar is from the original building, as is much of the Victorian original interior. CDN operated 7/7 and offers a red-wood atmosphere suited both to music and romance.
The grand Swedish American hall is located upstairs, above the main premises and provides a wood encased ballroom large enough to cater to both local and international acts. The CDN bar is a popular attraction for locals and has been given a good reputation by media coverage. The restaurant provides decently priced food, from meals to sandwiches, burgers to pizza, and entrees to dessert. Private events are possible in two separate venues at the same location. CDN operates from one hour prior to a show through to approx. 2am - but it is best to check for exact times if this is important to you.
Built shortly after the 1906 quake, CDN has formerly been a brothel, speakeasy and location for the meeting of secret societies. CDN & the Swedish American Music Hall can be found at 2170 Market Street. Public transport to this venue is simple, with many Sanchez/Market and Church/Market stops.
