Excerpts From Down The Rabbit Hole - the latest EP from ASTRAL:
Released recently by Vibraphone, Astral's latest quartet of temptations is wrapped in a sleeve designed by Stan Askew.
* WALK AND TALK:
A bouncy start to the first of four taste testers, leading into a perfect blend of lyric and sound, meaning your ears need at least a second helping to hear both sides of this track.
* JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE FOLD:
An instrumental with swirls climbing from a soft and dreamy start that spirals into a relaxing track. (I have yet to hear the track often enough to ascertain the meaning of the title word 'fold'... sheep fold? fold in the structure of the brain? a pleat in clothing? folded to move on....? What a good excuse to listen to the EP some more...)
* NARCISSUS:
A typical Astral soundscape - with typical Astral lyrics - a great treasure for long-term Astral fans looking for something in the usual line. Dave's vox stand out prominantly above the 'boom-crisp' musicline leading to a clipped end.
* UNTIL THE DAY:
Catch those lyrics and ponder them over as they blend into the music - but you will miss the beauty of the tune; so once again, you will have to play it at least twice to hear it completley. This is my favorite track from this collection. Just as you are thinking 'oh dear, is it all over?' the track continues with a reburst to satisfy - but you will need to play this entire EP a minimum of 2-3 times to expwerience it thoroughly... probably, you will want it on repeat a half dozen or more times!
You can keep track of Astral and learn about upcoming concerts & releases from their myspace page.
