ELEPHONE CANISTER REVIEW
August 4th 2008 16:15
Produced by Marc Weibel, Talking House Records from San Fran's Bryant Street offer you Elephone's latest album. Canister combines some typical Elephone tracks with songs of stage-musical, fairground, and San Francisco styles. This music appeals to people and pigeons both. (One of our show-pigeons is now an Elephone fan, thanks to listening to this album!) Along with musical assistance from Paul Ruxton & pc muñoz, the core of the band currently consists of Lily Faden on drums, Sierra Frost on keys & vox, Dan Settle on bass & keys, Terry Ashkinos on guitars & vox, and Ryan Lambert on vox & guitar.
EL JEFE: Euro speak with beat intro, female vocals take us through some interesting lyrics.
EDDIE IZZARD: Another bouncy, catchy number, this time with male vox, providing a great dance track.
CANISTER: The title track offers a sample of typical Elephone atmosphere. Somewhat in stage-show style, the track catches in your head, providing you with afters. Your heart holds to the sound it wants to hear. This is my personal favorite from this album.
AMERICAN PLASTIC FAREWELL: Coming across in stage-show style, here is another song to stay in your head afterwards, playing again post CD.
RABBIT TRAIN: With the flavor of a 50's stage-musical, the fifth track provides a guitar and vocals intro leading into a typical Elephone sounding song to enjoy. The drum beat from Lily Faden gets your toes tapping, if not your feet and legs too.
DAY FOR NIGHT: A slower-paced song, again providing a sound typical of this band. Don't forget to pay attention to their lyrics!
OPERATOR IN THE SKY: A touch of fairground atmosphere backs the female vocals. After just a couple of plays through, you'll find you want to join in and singalong with this track.
AS SEEN ON TV: A sweet and quiet vocal intro, then along comes a burst of music to pace it up. Later, it goes back to the slower vocals.
70 TAKES: A stable tune with vocals dancing above, then the music shifts its movement and the vocals follow along.
SILENCE IS THE NEW SCREAM: There is a strong vocalization emphasis. This tune is a another one which should get those toes tapping.
IT'S FORCED: A story told by the voice of Sierra Frost, backed by fairground music, ending in a boom-down out.
Warning - play this album a few times, and it'll never stop! Once the CD stills, the music remains replaying itself in your heart and head that do not want to let go of it.
