CD REVIEW: VEIL VEIL VANISH - INTO A NEW MAUSOLEUM
April 4th 2008 03:49
Into A New Mausoleum from the band Veil Veil Vanish is a 6-track recording originating in 2007. The band comprises of Cameron Ray on guitar, Kevin Tecan on guitar and vocals, Amy Rosenoff - whom some may remember from her time with Astral - on bass, & Robert Marzio on drums. You can find out more about the band and/or purchase their CD at www.veilveilvanish.com or www.myspace.com/veilveilvanish. This CD comes complete with the lyrics in printed form and with artwork by Erik Mirabel.
WHAT WILL YOU SAY TONIGHT - offers the delicious taste of San Francisco's 'smooth-deep' sound, along with strong, clear vocals and a bass-fade.
REPROACH - The drums lead us into this song of '80's English' style vocalization, tonal guitars, and 'crisp-crunch' percussion, all riding along with the bass.
MIDNIGHT IN THE RUE JULES VERNE - A screech intro leads into a waving bop-beat combined with partially sweetened power-vox. Rolling bursts of melody and tone, rising like the popping of sausages being fried, play underneath the singing.
INTO A NEW MAUSOLEUM - Starting on a guitar-distort intro, this song has a drifty atmospheric sound scratched into by an 80's-boom voice. This is my favored track, based on a combination of the lyrics and overall sound.
SHADOWS DRIPPING LIKE HONEY KISSING - The shortest track has a bouncy-beat intro. Vocals surf and slide over the bumpy beat of drums with guitars, which blend above the bass' steady gliding sounds.
ALL HANDS IN PRAYER - The longest track offers a quiet velvet-creep intro, and then pulls us into the track with the lure of the drums. Metal-edged silky vocals join the wave-like builds and tumbles of the tune, all gently fading and disappearing to leave our ears requesting a replay as the sounds gradually run away from our heart.
