CD REVIEW: LYP ~ PHOSPHOR
November 16th 2008 23:24
Little Yellow Perfect's latest CD PHOSPHOR recently arrived in my bedroom hi-fi. (You may wish to read the LYP interview, which referred to this recording and was posted about a week ago.) Being one of my top ten bands, I was eager to hear the latest - and apparently, (see interview) their last as LYP - musical experience...
NAILS ON SKIN: Slides into a beat before the tune curls up ready for the rolling and metallicly crisp vocals, which are backed with full, thick music and a prominent bass. This tune has a catchy ending and would be a great track to blast out of your car window if you are a driver.
600: A percussive intro is soon joined by firm vocals and solid musical backing. This track is a head-nodder for sure, and sounds ideal for radio play.
SO CRASS: You can't sit still to this track. Some part of your body, if not all, will surely want to get dancing. There is a catchy chorus too. This track has that special mix of beat and melody that LYP seem to excel at. These guys have the knack of fitting their various instruments together to perfection.
POST-MOD: This is my personal favorite track from the release. It is a toe-tapper with vocals and bass in prominence. That 'ooh-ing' blend appeals to my ears - and Speckley the pigeon's ears too, for he landed on the windowsill shortly after that section began, and did not leave until the entire CD had stilled.
GOLD: A pacey intro, bouncy beat and prominent drumming are offered in this song. You probably won't be able to keep your feet from bouncing along in time to the beat. Mine sure wouldn't stop dancing.
ZOMBIES OF SIXTH STREET: If judged by the lyrics alone, this final track would be my fav. A percussive start leads into yet another tune you won't be sitting still as a statue through.
I was glad to be in the bedroom and able to bop along at my leisure when playing this music - I have already murdered one typing chair because I listened to some music at my work-desk!
