Good Shows in January: 1

The Hemlock gives you Avon Ladies, Dry Rot, Elders and Ecoli in a 9-30pm show for $7 if you are 21 . A-Skillz, Slyde, 8Ball, Tamo Manclub and DJ's Kapt'n Kirk and Motion Potion share a show at The Mezzanine with $15 tix at 9pm. The Blobettes, Naked Lights, Mitchel Brown and Weltschmerz play an 8pm show at Life Changing Ministry (1629 8th Street in Oakland).

Go to The Beauty Bar to catch Wave Not Wave – The White Christmas Edition from 9pm. Free entry, tons of DJs including LUMPEN THE LAPTOP HERO and OMAR PEREZ, and drink specials. Music styles: NO WAVE, NEW WAVE, DARK WAVE, GLAM ROCK, PUNK ROCK & other weird music. Oakland Active Orchestra, Beep, Jack O' The Clock and Oakland Active (mini) Orchestra play a 9pm free show at The Uptown. BOTH gives you a 9pm show from The Struts, Karina Denike and The Bang for a max of $10 tonight.

The Hemlock gives you Silian Rail, Summer Darling and Honeycomb in a 9-30pm 21 show for $7. The Hot Toddies, The Soft White Sixties, Switchblade Riot and Sentinel play The Uptown at 9 – save $3 off the ticket price if you take a can of food along. Slim's offers you a show from The Vandals, Assorted Jellybeans and Goodbye Gadget tonight if you are over 5 years of age and have $16. There is an all ager on at B.R.S., Richmond from Witchaven, Nihilist Killz, Speedwolf, Pillager, Hellhunter, Infernal Graves and Ghastly Chains for a ticket price of $6 at 7pm tonight. Meanwhile, The Love Dimension, Echo Location and Big Long Now have an all ager show on for you at Cafe Revolution - 7th and Peralta in Oakland – at 8.

Christmas in The Bay

Well, despite not being a commercialist or a Christian, Christmas does edge its way in on my life a little. I like to make my own from-scratch xmas pud and play some Californian Christmas music. I have an MP3 of Joshua Armstrong – former local now Nashvillian – singing Good King Wencelas
Really Long Link Armstrong/_/Good King Wenceslas) and I have also been playing Jamie Lynn Noon's Silent Night over at U-tube some. Really Long Link ) Sometimes Bill Spooner brings out a Christmas song for fans at his website – but I haven't sen one this year – yet.

The independent gives you Tame Impala, Stardeath & White Dwarfs in a 21 show at 8. Not a lot else going on tonight – so you might want to go dance at the Matrix Fillmore – where you can find the weekly Manic Mondays event.

Horseflesh, Cmbls and Jorge Bachmann play a 7-30pm show at McAllister and Divisadero Streets. There's a party going on at Milk Bar from 9 – QUOTE: Milk invites attendees of Nightlife at The Academy of Sciences to join us for an after party following the event. Featuring a special "covers set" by AB and The Sea, Silver Swans and The Young Science. Mario Muse will be on the decks all night, with an extra special debut DJ set by Julie T. (Hint: the T is for Tricycle!) Admission is free with a Nightlife ticket or $7 cover for those that just want to stop in to see some amazing talent on our stage. 8pm at The Rickshaw - Epic Sauce presents MILLIONYOUNG, Teen Daze and The Great Mundane plus Epic Sauce DJs – cost $10/12. Petunia & The Vipers, The B Stars and West Coast Ramblers play an 8pm show at The Uptown for $10. Sub-Mission gives you Grace Alley, Unchained, Top Notch, Greedy Eyes and out of towners' Mascot for $7 in an all age show. The Hemlock offers a $6 show at 9 from Little Teeth, Blackbird and Future Twin Raum. Heather Combs plays Edie Carey's CD release show as well as Alden at CDN tonight for the 21 peeps at 9. Live 105 hosts a show from Aussie band Temper Trap, along with Sleigh Bells and The Limousines for $25 at 8 – tickets include A Silent Film and DJ Aaron Axelsen and its going on at The Mezzanine.
