I first found Mano at Myspace when I was searching for local bands to listen to and came across The Wildlife. When asking local performers if I could e-interview them for my book (San Francisco Music Vibes of the 2000's - avail at www.lulu.com/winterbear) Mano kindly obliged. I have since been following along with the band's progression.

BLAIR HANSEN ~ REAL WORLD REVIEW

June 19th 2010 09:16
REAL WORLD is an 11-track album from young and beautiful Californian Blair Hansen. Not yet a quarter-century old, Blair has already built up a quality fan base spread across the world. There are no duds on this album; whether you prefer Blair’s sexier side, her gentle folky side, or the showcasing of her varied vocalization talents crammed into a single tune, you get to hear several samples of your option on this CD.

BEST OF THE BAY 2: The Blank Tapes

June 13th 2010 14:13
I have been following these guys for a couple of years at Myspace. It appears I narrowly missed catching a live concert when they toured the UK last year - by a month or two. NB - You may need to click on the pic to enlarge it enough to read!

What music means to me 3

June 12th 2010 05:16
If we forget which performers I traveled through and take music itself and then ask 'what exactly does it mean to me?' - then we come up with a pile of confusion.

Originally, it was sounds I liked to wobble to. It then became sounds I enjoyed relaxing and wobbling to. After this, it became sounds I liked to copy and sing into the air as I sped about on a push bike (I have fond memories of whizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing down the hill of the A27 into Arundel signing Gene Kelly's 'ALL I DO', for example

What music means to me 2

June 11th 2010 03:55
Currently, you will find me happily bopping about in my typing chair (which is now a rather uncomfy solid wooden thing that I painted avocado green in my late teens for some extraordinary reason - but used to be a real typing chair in the past two - one being broken by bouncing about TOO much to those Paradise Boys, ho hum…) to tracks by mostly San Francisco artists - such as Madelia, Astral, Veil Veil Vanish, Paradise Boys…

How come I have taken such an interest in SF music, yet do not live in California? Well

What music means to me 1

June 10th 2010 13:42
When most people are asked to talk about why the music they play means a lot to them, they generally connect certain songs to specific times they have lived through - maybe a song shared with a lover or danced to with a hunky dude at a long-lost disco, or a dead brother’s fav track - me, well….

My musical history dates back to the early seventies - at which time I played a few current 'hits' and danced in the lounge before school with a friend. (The Wombling Song, stuff from The Seekers, 70's ballads, etc

Saving 924 Gilman Street

June 6th 2010 17:20
Another music venue is in trouble – this time a rent hike is causing 924 Gilman Street serious problems. Not a $25PM rise, but a few thousand $PM!

Find out more about this matter at the venue's weblog

June 3rd 2010 05:29
A new series of posts begin today with the first response to some questions that I sent out to a selection of local musicians this week coming from THE FRAIL.

This is a band that I have been following through their Myspace page for several years - and yes, I have 1-2 songs from THE FRAIL on my computer and can therefore recommend their music
