Ukuleles, videos, and gigs

The Museum of Craft and Folk Art in San Francisco presents the exhibition Evolution of the Ukulele: The History of Hawaii’s Jumping Flea. Viewable at the Museum of Craft and Folk Art at 55 Yerba Buena Lane until October 21, 2007. For more information visit www.mocfa.org.
It is a part of the first-ever San Francisco Ukulele Festival, to be held September 7 and 8, 2007.

Folding bands and strutting stars

Vivisection have packed it in and now ceases to be a band. Fans are awaiting to hear what projects lie ahead for the former members.

Love, Hope and Fear are also on their way out of existence, but if you go to their Myspace page at: Really Long Link you can still buy their music

Josh Fix also has a show on August 29th at the Red Devil Lounge.

LYP

One of my fav bands, Little Yellow Perfect, is playing at the Red Devil Lounge on Thursday. (Squaretape are also playing, along with Downtown Harvest.)
LYP have been one of my top ten bands for a couple of years now, and I have written reviews for their last two CDs. They are one of the bands that I interviewed for my book - SAN FRANCISCO MUSIC VIBES OF THE 2000's - available at www.lulu.com/winterbear.

Birdmonster comp and concert info

Vaylence are playing Beale Street on Saturday 18th. For $5 you get to hear their all-girl band three others. The show is at 8pm.
Catch six cool bands at the International Pop Overthrow on Friday night. The Condors, Hope Chest, Phamous Phaces, The Brink, The Mission Satellite and Red Planet are playing at the Rockit Room for $8.
Finding Mercury are playing the Bay Area Music Festival Show in Pleasanton Saturday. It is a 1pm show, and further information can be found at www.bayareabarbequecookoff.com

Roller skating, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and breast cancer.

The Frail are looking for a SF inhabitant who can roller skate. They have not yet disclosed the details, but if you know of someone, please send a line to them at www.myspace.com/thermals

On Thursday, local band Sputterdoll are playing at the Retox. It is a $5/21 show, with two other bands. For anyone not aware of Sputterdoll, they were one of the groups I included in my SF music scene book, written in 2005. KFOG & The Bad Hand

Finding Mercury, soon to play Dan’s in Walnut Creek with Keith Varon, have been amongst the lucky 15 bands to be included in the KFOG LOCAL SCENE COMPILATION CD.
(KFOG is a SF area radio station)
FM’s song ‘Whisper’, available to view in video format on their Myspace page, will appear on KFOG’s ‘Local Scene 4 CD’ - soon to be available for just US$5

A new CD &…

Keith Varon & Finding Mercury are sharing the limelight at Dan's in Walnut Creek on Friday night. (That would be a concert that I wouldn’t want to miss if I were in town!!)

On August 9th, HIJK are set to release their new CD ‘The Pen and the Letter’ at the Rickshaw Stop. It is to be an 8pm concert with two other bands and a DJ
